Moving house can be one of the most stressful experiences of a person’s life, and it’s only gotten more challenging since the outbreak of Coronavirus in Scotland. We’ve put together some of the most frequently asked questions that we get as a Glasgow Estate Agent surrounding moving home with the ongoing pandemic to try and help make your move as smooth as possible.


Can I still move home during Lockdown?

Yes, you can! Advice issued by the Scottish Government pertaining to Coronavirus states that people across Scotland are permitted to be moving house no matter which level your council area is in.


Will I still be able to view houses in person?

You are still able to view properties in person, with some slight changes from before. Due to social distancing guidelines, we are now asking that no more than 2 people come along per viewing party. Both people in the viewing party must live in the same household. We know this can be frustrating when you want to get a first-hand opinion from various family members, however we do encourage the use of video calling.

If you are asked to self-isolate or develop any symptoms, we would ask that you contact us at your earliest convenience to cancel or reschedule your appointment.


Has the pandemic affected the property market?

Estate agents were unsure of what kind of market we would be returning to after the initial lockdown in 2020, but no one expected it to get as busy as it did! Despite the changing restrictions and ongoing pandemic, in the latter months of 2020 we experienced a fantastic uplift in activity that continued right through to the end of the year. We know that things can change daily right now, so we do our utmost to keep our clients up to date with exactly what is happening.


Are you still operating as normal?

Following the latest Government issued advice, we have taken the decision to temporarily close our office and work from home. We are open our normal hours and are still contactable on our office number – 0141 404 1333 – or by email to info@walkerwylie.co.uk.


Does it still take 6-8 weeks for a sale to complete?

The length of time from an offer being accepted to the buyer getting their keys is largely dependent on the circumstances of each individual sale. At the moment, if you are depending on a mortgage, it is taking longer than the normal 6-8 week time frame as mortgage providers are incredibly busy. We would advise that you allow yourself a few weeks extra to ensure that you give yourself plenty of time for your sale and/or purchase to go through.


What happens if my house is on the market and I need to self-isolate?

If you or anyone living in your home develops symptoms or is asked to self-isolate while you are on the market, we would ask that you contact us urgently. All viewings would be postponed until after your self-isolation period. Viewings cannot go ahead while you are self-isolating even if the affected person were to wait outside until viewers left, for example.
